“Super-Fine” Compost

“Super-Fine” Compost–because it is. This is old school compost, made like fine, requiring both art and science to produce a great product. We use the static pile composting method for maximum soil life activity, nutrient availability, and humus content; the keys to soil fertility. This intensive method takes longer but it is well worth it. After all, our gardens and the quality of our foods depend on this complex material, i.e. healthy soils, healthy plants, healthy people.

Barnyard manures are used as the base feedstock for our manure compost. This rich manure compost is the building block for all of our soil mixes.

All Geosource products are “organic” and our compost meets the testing requirements of the US Composting Council Seal of Testing Approval. We do not use biosolids or other regulated waste stream materials in any of our products.

Use compost as a soil amendment, a mulch, or top dressing. It is the most versatile product you use for the garden or landscape―and you can’t have too much.

Garden Soil

Rich organic Garden Soil, carefully blended with “super-fine” manure compost, real topsoil, and sand. This soil is high in organic matter and packed with the vital nutrients, essential minerals and beneficial microorganisms to make your vegetable garden, flowers and shrubs, and herb garden thrive.

Garden Soil boasts a superior soil structure, carefully balanced to provide optimal aeration, water retention, and drainage. This allows for healthier root growth, disease prevention, and stronger plants, ensuring they flourish in any setting.

In short, Garden Soil is a high-performance blend that is versatile in any application. Growing outstanding plants that look great and can better withstand extreme temperatures and drought is important.

Lawn Dressing

Lawn Dressing (or top dressing) is a blend of our “Super-Fine” compost and sand. Periodically applying a thin layer of Lawn Dressing will help to maintain a healthy vibrant lawn.

The list below explains that Lawn Dressing works so well for the same reasons compost and organic matter work so well in the soil:

  • Enhances nutrient content: Compost is full of essential natural fertilizers vital for optimal plant growth.

  • Increased moisture retention: Organic matter in compost acts as a sponge in the soil, retaining moisture and helping prevent runoff and evaporation.

  • Reduces thatch buildup: Thatch, a dead layer of grass and organic debris impedes air, water and nutrient movement leading to an unhealthy lawn. Lawn Dressing helps break down thatch over time providing a balanced environment for natural decomposition.

  • Inoculates the soil with beneficial microbial activity: Compost contains a diverse array of microorganisms that have a symbiotic relationship with plants. When you top dress your lawn with Lawn Dressing you are introducing these microbes into the soil, which help break down organic matter, release nutrients and suppress harmful pathogens.

  • Improves soil structure: Compost is an excellent source of humus, which aids in improving the soil structure. It helps to loosen compacted soils, allowing for better air circulation, root development, and water infiltration.

Black Composted Mulch (BCM)

Hot, Steaming, Black…no, it’s not coffee―but better.

Black Composted Mulch, or BCM, is a compost and a mulch, and represents the best of both products. Composting makes this mulch darker and richer than any other mulch, and the addition of barnyard manures increases the nutrient value. BCM is similar to our “Super-Fine” c ompost but is designed to be the very best mulch you can get.

As a mulch BCM conserves moisture, suppresses weeds, regulates soil temperatures, and prevents soil erosion.

As a compost it adds valuable nutrients and soil life to further enrich the soil as it decomposes.

Beyond its functional benefits, BCM also enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of gardens and landscapes by adding contrast to make colors “pop”.

“Double-Ground” Cedar Mulch

Cedar Mulch has long been a South Texas favorite due to its warm reddish color, long-lasting properties, and resistance to pests.

Cedar Mulch fibers link together to form a mat that makes it more resistant to erosion than other mulches.

Our Cedar Mulch is ground finer than most, more like a triple-ground product. Our processing method assures that our cedar mulch remains extremely clean and consistent..

A top performer, Cedar Mulch looks great in any landscape. Conserves moisture while the added contrast makes all colors more vivid.

Native Mulch

Native Mulch is a finely ground mulch composed of all of our local hardwoods: oak, pecan, mesquite, hackberry, and so forth.

All mulches offer great benefits to plants and Native Mulch is no exception: moisture retention, weed suppression, an ideal environment for beneficial microbes and earthworms, and the eventual addition of organic matter and humus into the soil as the mulch decomposes.

This is really the original Mother Nature’s mulch. Day in and day out for eons, Mother Nature has mulched the surface of the earth with material just like this to benefit life. Our Native Mulch does the same thing, it is just a little finer.

Decomposed Granite (DG)

Decomposed Granite or granite gravel is a common material used to make pathways or driveways. It can be compacted to create a beautiful, natural surface while remaining firm and permeable. Stabilizing additives can also be added to further enhance these qualities.

Decomposed Granite is also commonly used in the landscape as an accent material or as a mulch. It is permanent, versatile, and naturally beautiful.

Note: DG come in various sizes. Our DG is 1/2” minus.
